STEP is an international interdisciplinary organization which counts over 14,000 members and 33 branches worldwide with members drawn from the legal, accountancy, corporate trust, banking, insurance and other topic related professions. Among other benefits STEP membership entails, are access to the largest group of trust and estate practitioners worldwide (listed in the annually published STEP Directory), subscription to the STEP and STEP Avanti periodicals, exchange of information and knowledge through frequent conferences and reports, and the provision of skilled training to students via the STEP diploma programmes.

Although application for STEP membership is by thesis assessment or Diploma Examination, newly formed overseas branches such as the Cyprus branch enjoy a two year grace period from the date of formation, during which entry requirements are based on relevant experience in trust and estate work without the need for examination.
